Sania Mirza to skip CWG opening ceremony

The Indian tennis star Sania Mirza will not attend the march past of the athletes at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony on Sunday, Oct 3. As it was decided that she needs adequate rest before her mixed doubles match on Monday, Oct. 4.

The second seeded Sania Mirza and Leander Paes will open their campaign against Nykita Stacey Roheman and Alberton Richlieu of St Lucia in the first round of mixed doubles on Monday, Oct 4.

Sania’s team coach, Jaideep Mukerjea says the competitors would have to wait at the players’ holding area for three hours ahead of the march past in-short they will have to be there for over five hours.

Apart from mixed doubles Sania Mirza is also taking part in singles and doubles. So, it has been decided that the tennis star should be given rest before her mixed doubles match on Monday.
